Asbestos testing should be undertaken on ALL properties, commercial or residential, that were built or renovated between 1940 and 2000 before any further work is done that could potentially expose asbestos.

Exposed asbestos is extremely hazardous. It is a known carcinogen with the inhalation of asbestos fibers linked to increased risk of lung cancer. WorkSafe NZ confirms that asbestos is the largest single cause of work related deaths with an estimated 170 people dying a year of asbestos-related diseases.

In April 2018 new rules came into effect that specify requirements for landlords, both residential and commercial, to manage asbestos risks.

All landlords need to ensure properties have an asbestos management plan that identifys any asbestos on the property and how it is managed.

Asbestos in your home
Asbestos can be found in many areas of your home, including on the backings of vinyl/lino, texture-coated ceilings, fireplaces, hot water cupboards, guttering and more.

If you’re planning renovations on properties built before 2000 it is important that you get asbestos testing done before starting any work.

Whether your a landlord and have a duty of care to your tenants or you want to protect your own family, get peace of mind and contact us to organise asbestos testing.
